I was fooling around with a flash drive and created a 1GB partition on and 8GB to install Puppy Linux. Later I wanted to remove the partition and regain the 8GB contiguous space. Windows 7 wouldn't do it. I didn't try other partitioning software but I did find a solution called Bootice.exe. This is a stand alone solution. Just Google it and download from mainline software aggregator. The author is Chinese and his home site does not have an English version (but then again maybe something was lost in Google translation).
PendriveApps tells how to use it but his links are broken.
