WinSetupFromUSB The Multi Windows Install Program

Find it here:
http://www.winsetupfromusb.com/

Install Win7, Win10, etc from the same USB drive.

When starting from the USB, it can be tricky to choose the correct boot option on some PCs but just try all options.

I don't mean boot options in the BIOS but picking the selections the drive offers. Be aware that a UEFI option is sometimes given as well as the regular option so try both.

USB Speed and Drivers

I am running an ASRock  Z77 motherboard and installed a fresh Win7 with the latest drivers. My USB 3 speeds were hopeless.

I could not remember the USB 3 speeds before the fresh install so figured the Z77 must me slow. I had a Q77 machine to prove the USB drive was fine. It kept bugging me so I went to the ASRock site and downloaded the UsB drivers from their site. They were older but I installed them anyway.

Proof that newer is not always better. But in the confusion and desperation I tried XFast USB which I had always ignored. XFast does help somewhat.

Here is a portable SSD I put together. Before I switched drivers, even this topped at 30 MB/s. Glad my USB 3 is back in action.

Multiboot USB

WinsetupfromUSB is the best.

Yumi is simple to add and remove entries to the USB. It also has link for many of the sources. I always go back to using Yumi. Keep the Yumi program on the flash drive because new versions of Yumi may not be compatible with the USB build and you may not be able to add or remove programs without it. Honestly, Yumi is a great solution.

MobaLiveCD is good for boot testing. Run as admin. and allow (or not) to create virtual drive.

Image: I have not found a good way to image a USB drive to copy the builds unless you are using the same size drive. For example, if you image a 2GB USB and copy to 8GB only 2GB is usable. Sometimes you can just copy the files over and it works.

MultibootUSB also works great to test boot of the USB.

32GB is just enough but 64 would be better for everything I want plus useful space.
Kaspersky Rescue Disk is a must have.
Ultra Virus Killer is also a must but must run under Windows.
--Download and run Hitman Pro but also must run under Windows
Liberkey with all the programs you want for Windows.
Linux Mint
Windows Install
Hirens
Falcon 4
Snappy Driver Installer with data base. This thing is magic for driver installs and updates but huge.
 Programs:
SpaceMonger
JKDefrag
OneClick Installer 3
UltimateWindowsTweaker UWT

If you are having trouble zeroing out a USB previously crated try ImageUSB. This can also make a single boot USB of ISO or img files. Sometimes a formatted USB will not show all the space and this can fix it.

Front Panel USB 3 Add-on Works Great

I had installed a new motherboard into an old Antec case. No front panel USB 3 back then. So I bought a Mediapc 5.25" All-In-1 kitchen sink add-on. Very please with the USB 3 performance. Front panel audio doesn't work, no surprise here. When does that ever work? Anyway, it is not worth fooling around because I would use USB headset anyway. SD card reader works. Have not checked eSata yet. But USB 3 is a win.

WD 500GB USB3

I just bought a My Passport WD refurbished 500GB USB3 from WD for $49 + small shipping cost. The speed is impressive. To bad my laptop does not have USB3. The next laptop will have it. Downward spike are probably due to something accessing the drive while the test was running.

TruePower UCS Power Outlet With Built in USB Ports

This item is currently waiting on final UL Approval. It is scheduled to begin shipping in early 2010.

TruePower UCS Power Outlet With Built in USB Ports

Neat idea and I know right where I’m going to put it now that cell phones will standardize to USB charging. Looks like $10 well spent.

List Of USB Stuff 1-6-2010

I need a place to keep USB things that work or may interest me.

USB 3 and Your New Notebook

For what it's worth:
USB 3 is finally going main stream but gradually and grudgingly. High end notebooks, external hard drives are popping up more frequently with USB3. Desktops can be altered with an add-on card so we are back to crawling behind our computers to plug in flash drives (when USB 3 flash drives become cheap enough to consider). I guess we can always use an extension cable and duct tape it to the case. I doubt those ports on the front of your case will be useful because USB3 uses 8 wires opposed to USB2's 4 wires.

Notebooks are another matter. Adding to notebooks will not be possible for all practical purposes. If you can hold off on a notebook purchase until it includes USB3, I would hold off. If you are simply buying a $500 surf-the-net version, it really doesn't matter all that much. But a power user is going to want USB3. Yes, power users already know this so this is more for power user wannabees.

Here is an explanation of USB3. Bottom line ... it's fast.

Edit: I guess we could use a PC Express Card like this. My underwhelming experience in the USB2 from USB1 period is the lack of current but maybe PC Express is hotter. It takes juice to run an external HD. Flash drives are no problemo. It would give my lonely PC Card slot something to do.

Welcome to Usb.brando.com

When you can no longer live without USB3, Brando may be your store. I have never ordered from Brando but they seem to have a good USB3 section developing.

For cables go to monoprice.com. They price shipping on total amount (not each item) and they have amazing prices.
