With a 64 bit system you will need the 64 bit drivers from tech support. They will e-mail you a link for download. Vista worked without problem for me. I have used it on XP, Vista and Win7 32 and 64. Drivers can be a challenge but you can get it working.
Win7 64 you need to run the following program after driver install.
C:\Program Files (x86)\PFU\ScanSnap\Driver\SsDrvRepair folder\SsDrvRepair-x64.exe

Maybe the S300 would be a good choice if space or portability is an issue.
Rant: Updating software is a pain from this ass hat (whatever that is) company. You must fill out a form including serial number and part number. Then they email you an expiring link to the download. Who is running customer service in this lame brain operation. Really, who is going to "steal" a proprietary driver for a ScanSnap S510. Must be an old Apple employee.
The server is turtle slow.
