Learn a few Gmail shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts - Gmail Help
Keyboard shortcuts help you save time by allowing you to never take your hands off the keyboard to use the mouse. You'll need a Standard 101/102-Key or Natural PS/2 Keyboard to use the shortcuts.

Comments: Learning a few keyboard shortcuts makes Gmail easier and faster.

Voice Recognition in Firefox

Firesay :: Add-ons for Firefox
Firesay enables you to surf the web using voice commands.

Say your search queries instead of typing them.
Say which sites you want to visit instead of typing URL addresses.
Say what TV shows you want to watch on Hulu

This does work and is entertaining, maybe useful. Limited commands but new.

Open With - A Handy Firefox Add-on

Open With :: Add-ons for Firefox
Need to test your web pages out in Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Opera (or anything else for that matter)?

Open With adds options to various parts of your browser for opening the current page in another browser.

Comments:
I spotted this on LifeHacker and I like it. I still prefer Firefox over Chrome but when I need to open a page in IE or Chrome (for speed or whatever) this add-on appears to do the trick.

Drag Drop Attachments To Gmail

Drag and drop attachments onto messages - Official Gmail Blog
I used to have to click "Attach a file," find the photos, click them, etc. Starting today, if I'm using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox 3.6, I can just drag and drop the files to attach them — easy as pie.

Comments: This is great but you need to Update Firefox to 3.6 to make it work. Just sayin'.

Java Console Firefox Extension

I noticed a couple "Java Console" entries in my Firefox extensions. The "uninstall" is grayed out and I found some exotic uninstall instructions while searching. The easiest way to uninstall is to start Firefox as Admin. and the button activates.

I have no idea what the extension did but I don't want extensions installing without may authority. So goodbye for now Java Console.

Goo.gl URL shortening in Firefox

How To Make Short Hyper-Links with Goo.gl URL Shortener (via Bookmarklet or Extension Add-on) » My Digital Life
goo.gl lite (Firefox Add-on): Let users use Goo.gl, Google’s URL shortener without installing Google Toolbar. After installation, user has to right-click Firefox toolbar, click “Customize”, and drag the Goo.gl button to a toolbar. Clicking it will make a goo.gl URL and copy it to clipboard, which can then be pasted to everywhere.

Comments: Shortening URLs with Google Tool Bar is a pain unless you want to send the url to a specific location like Facebook. A better way is to use the Firefox extension above. After installation a new right click menu entry appears, "Copy Goo.gl URL for link location". The chance of Google shorts being around in the future may be better than with some others. Let's not forget Google Notebook, so longevity is not guaranteed.

Fixing Firefox 3.6's new tab behavior

When opening a link in a new tab, by default the tab will appear next to or near the tab in which the link was selected. Think Internet Explorer or Chrome tab behaviour.

Since IE, Chrome and now Firefox do this, it'll probably become de facto for browsers, but if you wish to remain a new-tab Luddite like me and restore Firefox's previous tab behaviour (where all new tabs appear on the far right of the tab bar), follow the following steps:

Fixing Firefox 3.6's tab blunder: Blogs - Null Pointer - ZDNet Australia

Comment: I want my new tabs opening last where I can find them. The above post tells how to "fix" the new behavior. About:config under "browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent"

I may change it back later but for now I dislike the new tab system.

Firefox 3.6 Extension Compatibility

Just installed Firefox 3.6 and most of my extensions worked but not all. Here is how to activate them. Good old about:config. Add a new Boolean string and choose false. Restart the Fox.

Make Google Your Default In FireFox

Ask.com is the most irritating but others can grab your default search in Firefox. Bing and Yahoo are also a pain. Even after uninstalling Ask traces will be left. Listen, I like Google and if I want to change it I WILL TELL YOU!

Type a word or phrase into your address bar and see which search engine works. Are you happy with it ... no? Then do this.

In about:config type keyword.url and enter http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=
This is the original default

Check out your other browser defaults.

In your address bar, type: “about:config”
Say yes to voiding warranty (very funny)
Inside of the filter search box, type: "browser.search"
Click the unwanted entries and type "Google" (watch if url is needed sometimes)
Firefox needs to be restarted to take effect.

LastPass

When I mention LastPass to people their eyes glaze over. I assume they don’t understand what it is or they seldom log into web sites.

LastPass keeps all of your passwords and form fills online. With the Firefox (IE/Chrome) add-on, one only logs into LastPass and it does the rest when you are presented with log in requests. It can replace the browser’s insecure password saves.

Mostly it works just fine. Sometimes it feels glitchy but not often. Most of the glitches happen when I want it to log on automatically and it doesn’t. Still it will fill in the info and all I need to do is hit enter. I have had it lose the log ins to a few sites but no big deal, I just logged on to that site, LP offered to remember it and all was fine again.

This is the best I have used. If you access a lot of forums, retailers, etc. then LP is a whopper.

Firefox Jerky Stream Fix

I thought there was something wrong with my system because Firefox streaming video was so jerky. It is the auto session saving. Bump the time interval from 10,000 to 120,000 or higher. It fixed it for me.

In case you can't read the screen shot. 1. about:config 2. browser.sessionstore.interval
