I like turning off Chrome running in the background also. When I close Chrome, I want everything associated with Chrome to close.

Sick of Chrome Text Garble

One of my PCs Chrome would start garbling text after being used for awhile. Shutting down all instances of Chrome and restarting would solve it temporarily. I am trying to clean every speck of Google from the computer and start over.

Logged on to Chrome account to be sure the settings were backed up.
Shut down every instance of chrome in task manager.
Remove all Google stuff through Add Remove Programs.
Win-R and type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google" then delete the folder
Type the following text into a notepad and save as "remove.reg". Run the reg program to remove all Chrome entries from register.
You could also run reg clean in CCleaner.

I hate all the memory Chrome eats up but this is the minimum I can get by with for extensions.

Delete Google Plus Auto Backup Photos

Wow this was way too hard to find. I had a photo on Google Plus that I did not want there whether private of not. It was a picture of my drivers license that did not need to be in the wild. Essentially when you are logged in to Google, go to this site

You can even open docs and spreads created within Google Docs.

I am trying SpinBackUp to backup Google Drive. It is easy and works but when I download a native Google Doc, I can't view it. Spinbackup is still a good easy solution that works automatically.

I have been using Google Docs more lately. You can't beat it for keeping information in the cloud. Cyberduck allows you to access Google Docs as in a file manager. You can download them for backup or quick use.

Google's Blue Arrow

I seriously hate Google's blue arrow that refuses to scroll the search page but instead clicks its way down through each entry. In fact I hate it so much that I am now using Bing as my default search. I would love to rant on about how stupidly useless this blue arrow is but why waste the time.

Google Voice - Why Are You Waiting?

Edit: If you dial a number by clicking a link and then answering from the Gmail page, the number 4 on your keypad will appear dead. On incoming calls the 4 is used to turn on recording the call. To have the 4 work in normal fashion you must initiate the call through the chat phone link on the Gmail page.

I use Google Voice more and more. Cell service in my winter home is miserable so for my calling out, Google Voice is the answer. The Gmail dialer is primitive and limited but interfaces with Google Contacts nicely. Now we no longer have to cut and paste phone numbers that are not in our contacts. Left click a phone number on a web page or email and Google's dialer pops up with the number entered. This is a welcome enhancement.

My non-geek friends don't use Google Voice for some reason. They have no motivation to set up a phone number. They are missing out on a great function. Why search a location, find the number and use a phone? Just left click and call free.

Speakers (I assume everyone has them) (if not then Logitech S-220 2.1)

Microphone (Logitech USB if you don't have a mic)

Google Voice has sophisticated functions within it's settings for handling calls and messages and I use some of them but this computer as phone functionality would be enough reason to have a GV number even if it did nothing else.

Comments: I have been using Gpanion for awhile now and find it useful. I have set it as my home page and the immediate information and access it provides for Gmail, Reader, Calendar and Tasks is beneficial. I fear my life is hooked into Google's evil empire.

Hint: If you would be adversely impacted by loosing your Google account, be sure you have your secondary email set up in Gmail settings. This way if some hack attempt closes down your account, Google can send verification to that secondary email. Otherwise verification can be a difficult process.
