Windows 8 Defender a CPU Killer

Worked on a Windows 8 machine today. CPU and disk were pegged at 98% and Defender's AntiMalware was much of it. After cleaning things up and scheduling Defender to run once a month, things got better, but anti-malware would still ramp up. So much for scheduling. Totally unacceptable. I don't have this activity on a Win 10 machine with Defender. It was not my laptop or I would have upgraded to Windows 7 from 8.

Installing Avast Free did the trick and it shut Defender off just the way it is supposed to do. I installed it on my Win 10 machine also just for good measure.
